Wellness Advocate, CE Provider, Trainer, Speaker, Dental Hygienist

Hey There!

Since 1998 I have been working with amazing dental health care providers and brave patients doing their level best to create great relationships. There is one profound understanding that is the key to unlocking those relationships. I am uniquely positioned as a trauma survivor, former human service professional and current clinical dental hygienist to help patients and providers to work together to find that key.

Whether you are a dental health care provider, or you are a patient on your dental health journey - my heartfelt desire to help you feel seen, heard, understood, and valued.

Unfortunately we have accepted that dental anxiety and all its attendant side effects are a necessary evil. This has created disconnection, frustration, and and breakdowns in treatment and work relationships. We've come to believe it's just part of the deal. But is it??

I submit that there is a different way. One that acknowledges, better yet embraces, the need for safety in the treatment relationship and work environment. Because, make no mistake, these are relationships. The more conscious we are of that awareness, the better and more beneficial the relationships are - for patient, provider, and practice.

Humans are wired to connect. The the lion's share of that connection is expressed through the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). So when we boil it all down, if we can approach each other in a way that engenders and then supports a perception of safety in the nervous system of our partner, in any sort of exchange, we strike a sense of harmony and we can work together to meet our common aims. We enjoy a more productive outcome - on all sides.

I am here to facilitate these very connections.

Providers who would like to know how to initiate this process in your practice can download my free guide to instant connection and easy communication in the clinic here.

Whatever space it is you occupy I am here to commend and encourage. I'm ready to help.

I am constantly searching for understanding the brain, how it shapes our experience, and how to fight back against the, at times, crippling effects of complex trauma. My goal is then to show you how previous experiences have impacted your and/or your patients and to teach you the skills that will help you both - to complete dental treatment safely and successfully.

It is my mission to empower those who want treatment, but are held back by bad experiences. Educating providers to recognize, empathize with and foster safe treatment relationships for patients who don't like the dental chair is how we can completely change the conversation around dental fear and anxiety.

This work is about bridging the gap between patients who have had traumatic experiences and the practitioners who are committed to caring for them. I teach practitioners how to identify anxious patients, create a welcoming, protective environment, and to support patients through all phases of treatment. Patients learn to communicate confidently and remain grounded to reach their dental health goals with ease.

It has been my privilege to spend more than 30 years in health and human service provision and leadership roles. For the last 25 years (and counting), I have provided direct patient care and practice support as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Let's get started to help you cultivate or recognize these extremely valuable and applicable skills and change the way in which you, as providers or anxious and phobic patients, approach treatment in order to alleviate stress and create long lasting, safe treatment relationships.

Your Dental Health BFF,

Yvonne

Okay... Here's a bit more inside scoop

Let me outside, near water, with children or animals and I feel at home. I'm a serial redecorator, voracious reader (and audiobook listener - gotta do something when I strip and refinish furniture), and photography novice. I love great food, theater (and musicals *shrugs sheepishly*). OH! and word games, I love word games! I am the daughter of an adventurous Texan fella and a hard working Minnesota farmer's daughter. My sister couldn't say my name until she was three. Sometimes she calls me the black Martha Stewart. I love her anyway. I can teach you some Jedi DIY skills and you can share your favorite recipes. More importantly we can move you forward when it comes to ending the cycle of pain and disappointment that is so often connected to dental fear and anxiety.
